Occuring during most of the month of Vodun, Occlusion is simply the name given to the annual total eclipse of the planet by Lim. It is a time of total darkness, when shadows come alive and vampires hunt. Not all towns survive the Long Dark.
Due to the strife that occurs during Occlusion, Dorod’s landscape is littered with fortified settlements and castles that often see little use outside of Vodun. New settlements that don’t get their walls or keeps put together in time often do not last more than a year. Most hamlets and settlements respect magical items and alchemical agents that produce long-lasting light for their utility during these dark times.
Occlusion is met with fear and resignation by many, but not all. Some temples and orders look forward to what is to them the holiest month of the year. Priests of Vecna celebrate the event, as do priests of Nerull. Temples of Pelor maintain perpetual daylight spells within their main chambers to ward off the shadows for those who fear the dark.
